Bayou Benoit job steered to local company

St. Martinville — Breaux Bridge’s Architectural and Engineering Consultants, Inc., has been tapped to do the preliminary engineering on the much awaited Bayou Benoit landing improvements, President Guy Cormier told the Parish Council last week.

The council, meeting in an information-only session, also considered giving Architectural and Engineering the architectural contract on the Catahoula Meeting Center. And the Coteau Holmes Civic Center project would be awarded to architect Henry Boudreaux and his associate Larry Devillier.

Action on the proposals is pending the council’s next formal meeting in February.

The $200,000 Bayou Benoit project is to be a floating wharf near the launch ramp where people can secure their boats while they load and unload.

The lack of a place to tie up was blamed for the death last winter of a man who drowned when his boat floated away from the bank and he attempted to swim after it.

Funding for the landing comes from the state Department of Natural Resources through its Atchafalaya Basin Program.
