Belaire Cove Cookoff held
The 19th Annual Belaire Cove Crawfish Cookoff was held Sunday, March 30. Winners of the cooking competition were Papa Gators, first place. Kyle Lachney was chief chef and was assisted by Darrelyn, Sherron and Larry. Second place cooking honors went to Computer Service Inc., led by head cook Rita Lasseigne and assistant cook Yogi Lasseigne. CenturyTel, led by head chef Benny Fontenot, took third place in a competition of 27 entries. His assistant cooks were Mitch Sylvester, Bart Vidrine and Kevin Fontenot. The Best Decorated Booth was Ville Platte Home Health’s booth of crawfish. A western theme was captured by Tate’s Men and Boys, which won honorable mention honors. Most Original Booth was PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals). Honorable mentions for originality went to Planet Crawfish. The washer board competition was fierce, and the winners were Keith Dupre and Paul Santora, first place; Brett Fontenot and Taylor Ardoin, second place; and Larry Lachney and Dexter Morein, third place. Winner of the raffle were Robert Clark, who won the barbecue pit donated by Service Machine Shop; Glenda Fontenot, who won the $100 donated by Davis Manuel; and Nelwin Rider, who won the Old Smokey pit donated by Rocky Rider.
