CARTHAGE, Texas – The LSU at Eunice Bengals added another win to their already-impressive record with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Panola Junior College.

Panola took the lead in the bottom of the second inning, when Rocky Calhoun reached on Boomer Blanchard’s wild throw, scoring Cody Rogers.

The Bengals tied the score in the top of the sixth, when Delta Cleary doubled and was driven home by Kellan Bozeman’s base hit.

The Bengals took the lead in the top of the eighth when sophomores Nate Peterson and Chase Blanchard each singled to drive in one run.

Panola threatened LSUE’s lead in the second half, when Brandon Chaote doubled and then scored when Rogers ground out to first. But relief pitcher Eric Ortego struck out the next batter and Ryan Davis ground out to third to end the inning.

Ortego earned the win for LSUE, giving up one earned run and one hit in one-and-one-thirds’ innings of work. Ortego walked no batters and struck out two.

With the win, the Bengals are now 19-3 for the season. They travel to Baton Rouge on Wednesday to face the BRCC Bears at 6 p.m.
