Bengals sweep MGCCC over weekend, 7-0 and 6-5

The LSU at Eunice Bengals added two more wins to their record this weekend with a sweep of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, opening with a seven-run shutout and wrapping things up with a 5-4 nailbiter after two extra innings.
In the opener, LSUE (18-3) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Matt Creel tripled to score one run.
The Bengals broke out in the second inning with four more runs; Boomer Blanchard singled to score two runs, stole second, and scored on Delta Cleary’s single.
Creel’s double then drove Cleary home, jumping LSUE out to a 5-0 lead.
The Bengals added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the third when designated hitter Jason Terrel reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.
Later, Chase Blanchard’s base hit scored Terrel for the Bengals’ seventh run.
Ryan Boudreaux pitched the win, giving up no hits on four runs; Boudreaux walked two batters and struck out five in seven innings of work.
In the nightcap, Creel ground out to short to score one run in the bottom of the first, but the Bengals watched their lead evaporate as the reinvigorated Bulldogs broke out for four runs in the top of the second.
MGCCC’s designated hitter Jarred Cannette hit a two-run homer out to left field to give the Bulldogs the lead.
Later in the stanza, James McCarty tripled to drive home one run, and then scored on a passed ball.
But LSUE broke out for four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth, when Tyler Slocum started things off with a solo home run.
Later, Kellen Bozeman scored on Joey Johnson’s groundout, before Boomer Blanchard singled to score two more runs, giving LSUE a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the seventh, MGCCC scored the tying run when pinch hitter Jacob Daniel was hit by a pitch from relief pitcher Brennan Flick with bases loaded, forcing the game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bozeman doubled to score one run for the win.
Flick took the win for LSUE, giving up one unearned run on three hits in three innings of work. Flick walked no batters and struck out two.
