Beta Sigma Phi holds monthly meeting

The Beta Sigma Phi chapter of Epsilon Sigma met April 1, at the home of Glenda Mitchell. Members were treated to a delicious meal of grillades and grits before the meeting began.

Theresa Attales gave an interesting program on the origins and uses of musical instruments found in Cajun music. She focused on the harmonica, fiddle, accordion, triangle and washboard and displayed some of the instruments.

Joyce Coreil reported on the scholarship program sponsored by the sorority in the amount of $500. All senior girls at Sacred Heart and Ville Platte High School are eligible to enter by writing an essay. Forms are available at the schools through the counselors. The entry deadline is May 1.

Vice president JoAnn Eastin conducted the meeting in the absence of president Barbara Buroker.

The nomination committee presented its pick for the new slate of officers, and elections were held with results as follows: Gwen Wolff, president; JoAnn Eastin, vice president; Sheila Miller, secretary; Judy Waters, treasurer; and Sheila Saunders, extension officer.

Plans were made for Founders Day and the installation of the new officers.
