Blue Jays muzzle second-ranked Cubs for 21-1 win

BATON ROUGE – The St. Edmund Blue Jays finished their regular season Monday with a 21-1 stunner against University Lab (21-8), ranked second in the state for Class 2A by the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association.
St. Eds broke out for five runs in the top of the first inning, scoring three more in the top of the second to lead 8-0.
The Jays scored four runs each in the third and fourth innings, before allowing the Cubs to score one run in the second half of the fourth.
The Jays wrapped up the game with five more runs in the top of the fifth, forcing the 10-run mercy rule after holding the Cubs scoreless in the second half.
Tyler Rodriguez went 2-for-5 and drove in four runs. Trevor Hargroder (4-5) tripled twice for 3 RBI.
Edward Turk (3-4) and Tyler McGee (1-2) each drove in two runs.
Quin Arnaud (4-5) doubled for 2 RBI.
Mac Manuel pitched the win, giving up no hits, runs or walks during his three innings on the mound, while striking out two batters.
With the win, the Jays, ranked fourth in the state for Class 1A in the LBCA polls, finish their regular season with a 20-12 overall record.
