'Bulk garbage' picked up by parish

CROWLEY – Many Crowley residents have expressed some confusion about the new garbage pickup system that began last week.
One of the most prevalent questions asked is regarding the bulk garbage, such as leaves or lumber, that isn’t gathered by the crews that pick up the trash stored in the new green containers that Crowley residents were issued a few months ago.
“I still don’t know who is responsible for picking up this stuff,” said Crowley resident Olivia Maynard as she looked at the collection of bagged leaves that lined her yard on Ash Street in south Crowley last week. “I’m not sure if the city knows.”
Don’t worry Mrs. Maynard - they certainly do.
“All of the ‘bulk’ garbage will be picked up by the parish,” said Acadia Parish Police Jury spokesman A.J. Credeur. “We have people that pass down each road on garbage days to determine exactly where the bulk has gathered. We then send a truck to pick it up.”
While the initial week of pick up caused some confusion among residents, Credeur seemed confident that with time people will understand the system.
As reported last week, some residents were having problems with the containers they were issued being stolen.
Crowley Chief of Police K.P. Gibson said that all residents should write down the serial number that is located on the front part of the container and report any thefts immediately to the Crowley Police Department.
