The hiring of a new police officer and the donation of property to the village were the hot button issues discussed at the Chataignier Village Council meeting Monday night.
Chief of Police Joseph Clint Brasseaux suggested to the council that it looks into hiring a new police officer. He stated that the only applicant so far is Kalinsky Ardoin. Councilman Joseph Semien advised, “I think he’ll do good for Chataignier.”
The council passed a motion to consider hiring Ardoin and will revisit the issue once everything is submitted.
The council then heard from City Administrator Gayle McDavid about property on Rose Lane that was donated to the village. According to McDavid, the property donated by Aurbrey Brown is across from the elementary school.
“They are going to put a house on that property, and we need to install a sewer and water lines,” he stated. “To do so it has to be surveyed, and the village has to pay for the survey. Then the attorney needs to put together the papers, but in the meantime we do have signed authorization by the two property owners to cross their property with water and sewer.”
The council passed a motion to spend $650.00 for the survey plus any associated attorney fees.
In other business the council:
•adopted The Gazette as the Official Municipal Journal.
•passed a Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Section 3 Employment Policy Resolution.
•readopted a Policy Statement to persons with sensory impairments.
•passed a 911 Intergovernmental Agreement.
•set a budget meeting for June 28, 2017, at 6:00 pm.
