The regional round of the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was not kind to the five Louisiana teams that were fortunate to get bids, as four of the five did not advance to the super regional round.
LSU, the only one of the five that will now move on to the next round, did so by defeating Rice 5-2 in an if necessary game.
UL-L lost their if necessary game to Arizona on Monday, after having defeated the Wildcats earlier in regional play.
Southeastern Louisiana did manage one win in the Baton Rouge regional. The Lions lost game one to LSU and fell into the elimination bracket.
However, Southeastern rebounded by defeating the number four seed Utah Valley 3-2 in the their second game. The Lions were bounced from the regional tournament, losing to Rice 15-0 on Monday.
The two other squads representing the state in the regional round, Tulane and Louisiana Tech, both had mild success, making it to the finals in each of their respective tournaments.
The Green Wave fell in game one to eventual champion Boston College, but battled their way back through the tournament. Tulane defeated Ole Miss in game two 6-5 and took a 4-1 win over Utah in game three.
But, the Green Wave fell to Boston College on Sunday 6-3 to exit the postseason.
Louisiana Tech followed a similar path as Tulane in their regional. The Bulldogs lost game one to Cal-State Fullerton 1-0, but battled back through the elimination bracket, winning 9-4 over SE Missouri St. in game two and beating Cal-State 6-2 in game three.
They then lost to Mississippi St. in the final game 4-0.
