UL-L takes home Sunbelt Tournament title for third year in a row

In a first for any Sunbelt Conference team, the number 17 ranked UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns became the only team in the history of the conference to win three conference tournament titles in a row, as the Cajuns shutout Georgia Southern 5-0 in the championship game on Sunday.
With the win, UL-L is now tied with Coastal Carolina as having the longest active winning streak in the country at 10 games in a row.
UL-L will now host a NCAA regional tournament starting this Friday, as they host Princeton in the second game starting at 7 p.m.
The other two teams in the regional, Arizona and Sam Houston St. will play in the opening game of the tournament.
The Cajuns opened the Sunbelt tournament with a 7-4 win over Arkansas St. as senior Kyle Clement’s hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and the Cajun’s pitching staff struck out a season-high 20 batters to help propel UL-L to the win.
The Cajuns had to rally in game two against Texas St. UL-L scored three runs in the eighth inning after being down to the Bobcats 2-0 after seven innings of play.
In the their third tournament game, a slugfest against Arkansas St., UL-L overcame an early six-run deficit to defeat eighth-seeded Arkansas State 17-10.
Wyatt Marks and Dylan Moore combined to post the sixth shutout of the season for Louisiana. Marks (5-6) claimed his fifth win of the season scattering four hits in seven innings of work. The Lafayette, La., native posted a season-high ten strikeouts and did not allow a walk.
“I am very proud of our guys and whole coaching staff,” head coach Tony Robichaux said. “This is not a very easy thing to do. They may have made it look easy, but this is not an easy thing to do.
