Heritage Manor News: Emergency preparedness
It is very important to be prepared in an emergency, knowing what to do in any situation or set of circumstances. In long-term care and assisted living communities, your action will directly impact the lives of residents, families and staff. There should be written plans and procedures to meet all potential emergencies and disasters, such as fire, weather or missing residents. Employees must be trained for these procedures upon hire and periodically review the procedures with existing staff. Unannounced staff drills should be done at times. In services of staff and volunteers should be held at least annually. Check emergency and disaster kit to make sure supplies are working. Establish who will be in charge. Communication is key. Always have a plan B.
