Heritage Manor News: Happy Memorial Day

This year, Memorial Day will be observed tomorrow, May 26. The idea for honoring fallen heroes on a specific day began after the Civil War. It was originally called Decoration Day, when people decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers. Over the years, Memorial Day was celebrated on May 30, and became a time to include all fallen members of the American Armed Forces. In 1971, the date of Memorial Day was changed to the last Monday in May, when the Congress passed the National Holiday Act of 1971 (ensuring three-day weekends for federal holidays.) The act was signed by President Richard Nixon. Today, many people celebrate Memorial Day as a day to honor all those who have died, not just the fallen military. We are forever grateful for their sacrifice and honor them accordingly. We salute all of our veterans and wish them a great Memorial Day.
Activities this week include in-room visits, pokeno, Come Lord Jesus, bingo sponsored by Blake’s Southside Pharmacy, group exercise, jingo, bookmobile, ball toss, parachute fun and service by Washington Baptist Church.
