Minister’s Corner: The battle is not ours
If you haven’t figured it out by now, let me tell you that life is a test. Bad things happen to good people, but we must know that no matter how dark the night, according to the Word of God, joy comes in the morning. As the sun disappears into the west, it may be gone from our visual field, but it is not gone. So in times of testing, God is building people. He is not gone. He is still there right beside us. Look at Moses. He was tested on the backside of the desert for 40 years, but it made him into the meek man of God who could stand in faith against the stubbornness of Pharaoh. Do you think God was absent during his training? Look at Joseph. God sorely tested him as he was sold into slavery and falsely accused and thrown into prison. Yet, during those times of testing, God was working His goodwill and pleasure in Joseph, creating a man who would rise up and preserve the nation of Israel. The same can be said of Daniel and David and many other men and women of faith whose lives and exploits are recorded in the Word of God.
Psalm 126:5 NIV says, “Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sell, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.” What a promise. Listen, no affliction seems good for the moment, and let’s face it, nobody gets excited about adversity. But we who know the Lord can laugh in the face of adversity, holding on to the promises of God, knowing that the battle is not ours, but the Lord’s.
