Minister’s Corner: Follow the right path

Proverbs 14:12-16 KJV says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of that mirth is heaviness. The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. The simple believeth every word, but the prudent man looketh well to his going. A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil, but the fool rageth and is confident.”
This passage of Scripture is about looking very carefully at the road we choose to travel through life. We will make choices that will have long-lasting effects upon our life. There is a right path to follow and the wrong path to follow. Follow the right path and it will lead to joy, peace and eternal life and fellowship with God. Follow the wrong path and it leads to destruction.
Follow the wrong path and it will take you to ruin and destruction. We have seen so many instances in our lives of this truth. But these verses also teach us that we have no ability of ourselves to make the right decision. Left to our own best thinking and reasoning, we will always choose the wrong path. We don’t like to admit it; nevertheless, it is true. What our text is admonishing us to do is to “watch where we are going.” Those who are wise watch their steps and avoid evil. Fools, however, are headstrong and reckless.
The question is, “How can we be certain that we are making the right choices?” Well, the Bible has some wonderful information about how to keep an eye on the paths we choose to walk. It teaches us to look up, look back, look inward, look down, look outward and finally to look forward. The word of God will never lead us astray, but will help us to follow the right path.
