Minister’s Corner: Let go of the past

Isaiah 43:25 says, “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”
God forgives the past, but we refuse to. We relive it day after day. We remind ourselves how terrible we are and what awful things we have done. As a result, we go through life with invisible stripes, and we allow them to hold us back. We tell ourselves, “I can’t be in a relationship now, because I have failed in the past. I can’t be a godly parent, because I have failed in the past. I can’t achieve anything in my career, because I have failed in the past. I can’t be used by God, because I have failed in the past.” If the Bible teaches us anything at all, it teaches us that the past does not equal the future. The chains you think are holding you back don’t really exist. God has forgiven you. Let go. But not only has He forgiven you, He tells us in verse eight of Isaiah 43 to “remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.”
What happened yesterday, happened yesterday. It is old news, and as far as God is concerned, it is no longer an issue. You can forget about it, because God has forgotten about it.
