Minister’s Corner: The need for prayer

In Exodus 17:8-16 KJV, it records the battle that Israel had with Amalek. During the course of the battle when Moses grew weary and lowered the rod that he held in his hand, Aaron and Hur would lift his hands and the battle would turn in favor of the Israelites. God’s people figuratively hold up the hands of ministers by praying for them. Missionaries, for example, need financial aid to be sure, but more importantly, they need our prayers. Ministers are being attacked on all sides by Satan and the world to compromise their standards. Many are falling from all denominations. Where is the prayer?
I believe that God is speaking to the hearts of His people today, telling them that the victory will be won when His people are willing to get down on their knees and petition heaven, earnestly and fervently willing to sacrifice creature comforts that His work might be done.
We are not all called to preach, but we are all called to pray. And some of us have resisted the Lord in that we will not give Him time in prayer. We need people today who are disciplined enough and have enough perseverance that they pray regularly, whether or not they see an answer.
Whether is it personal trials or the salvation of our loved ones, the victory will only be won by the Lord, but He desires to allow us to be instruments for the victory if we will stop resisting Him, turn towards righteousness and holiness and be willing to petition heaven in intercessory prayer. It is time to stop talking about what we want to see God do and bring it to pass by being obedient to what He is telling us to do. Every man, woman and child needs to turn to the Lord in fervent, effectual prayer. We need to set time aside each day to pray for our churches, our city, our state, our country and the world.
