Minister’s Corner: Powerful influences in the home

When we look into the book of Genesis, we see that fathers and husbands were the leaders and priests of their homes. When they spoke, things happened. By and large, that responsibility has been abdicated by many men today. Men, God has not negated that responsibility that He has given to us. He will hold each husband and father accountable for his family. He wants us to walk in integrity before him and our families. Proverbs 20:7 KJV says, “The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.”
God has a very high regard for fathers because earthly fathers are the model of our relationship with God, our heavenly Father. Just like we feel comfortable confiding in our heavenly Father, so also our spouses and children should feel that they can confide in us. We are to be their protectors, their spiritual leaders and godly examples.
If we want to be powerful influences in our homes, if we want God’s blessings on our homes, then we men must decide that we are going to take the time to walk with God. We need to take the time in prayer to talk to God. And we must allow the Holy Spirit to have control of our lives so that everything we think, everything we do and everything we say will be edifying to our families.
