Minister’s Corner: Prejudice should not be named among us

Prejudice, in any form, is ugly. It isolates people and breeds bitterness and contempt. Misunderstandings arise, and prejudice taken to extremes can foster violence. We’ve all witnessed this recently. But let me quote to you something that our Lord Jesus Christ said, as is recorded in Matthew 25:40 (KJV), “Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” That pertains to more than doing just the positive things, but the negative things as well. For example, when you snub a brother or sister, you do it unto Him. When you cut a person down verbally, you do it unto Him. When you allow prejudice to keep you from associating with someone, you do it unto Him. When you cause anxiety and pain to someone, you do it unto Him. When you attach a label to someone, you do it unto Him.
I’m afraid there is still too much of the world in many of the people who call themselves Christians. We need to pray that God will purge us from our prejudices so that we can be more like Him. Aren’t you glad the Lord did not look down on you? How can you, then, look down on others? Prejudice should not be named among us!
