Minister’s Corner: What’s so great about Easter?

The story of Jesus didn’t end with His death on the cross. After He died, His body was placed in a tomb. That was on Friday evening. On Sunday morning, some of His followers went to the grave to visit Him. They were planning to anoint His corpse with spices in order to delay the decomposition process. When they got there, the stone that covered His tomb had been rolled away and He wasn’t’ there. An angel appeared and said to the women, “...Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified. He is risen; He is not here.” (Mark 16:6)
Earlier that morning, the spirit of God had entered that darkened tomb where the body of Jesus lay, and He filled it with life again. His blood began flowing through His veins and His lungs filled with air and He was, once again, alive. What had seemed, days before, like an awful tragedy was now an obvious victory. Death could not destroy Him. The sin that drove Him to the cross and ultimately cost Him his life did not have the power to keep Him in the grave. He conquered sin and He conquered death. And because he conquered death, through Him you can conquer life. Because He conquered death, you can claim the promises of Isaiah 25:6-10 in your life today. That’s what is so great about Easter.
