Council endorses wastewater study

The Eunice City Council on Tuesday night authorized Mayor Bob Morris to continue a study of the much-maligned wastewater plant and report back on what will be necessary to fix its shortcomings.

The council heard consulting engineer Gary Beard of Baton Rouge say one-half the twin facility is essentially not working.

Morris, who has spent the preponderance of his time chasing the wastewater ills over the past two months, said the facility's shortcomings are going to be expensive to fix.

"We basically have years of ignored or deferred maintenance," he said, estimated as much as $400,000 may eventually be needed to get the newer of the plant's two systems properly functioning.
