Couple wed during traditional ceremony
Litonya Michelle Woodard of Crowley and Dwayne Anthony Celestine of Breaux Bridge were united in holy matrimony on March 15 during a 6:30 p.m. traditional ceremony at St. Francis of Assissi Church in Breaux Bridge. Father James Fallon officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Clarence L. Woodard and Lucille Woodard of Crowley. She is the granddaughter of Albert Sullivan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the late Lucy Sulivan, and the late Clarence L. Woodard, Jr. and Mary Woodard.
Litonya is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and is currently employed by the University of Louisiana Police Department.
The groom is the son of Milton Celestine, Jr. and Angelica Celestine of Breaux Bridge. He is the grandson of Leo and Lillian Davis, and the late Milton Celestine and Beatrice Celestine.
Dwayne is a graduate of Southern University, and is currently employed at JD Silvetti Group of Companies.
The bride, escorted by her father, was elegant in a strapless, satin a-line gown featuring a cuff neckline and pleated sash. The dress was enhanced with a blue sash, and pearl earrings given to her by her mother. For the ceremony, she wore a matching long sleeve satin bolero jacket.
Her headpiece was a jeweled and beaded semi-circle. The bride carried a bouquet of multiple shades of blue hydrangeas, laced with pearls.
In keeping with tradition, the bride wore pearl earrings and matching necklace as something old; something new was her headpiece, something borrowed was her veil, and something blue was her sash.
Appropriate musical selections were provided by Mr. Frances LeBlanc, and scripture readings were read by Mandy Celestine.
Tramaine Breaux, friend of bride; served as maid of honor. Bridal attendants were Sara Woodard, sister of bride; Alicia Celestine, sister of groom; Reshina Williams, Akilah Ali and Celeste Adams, all friends of the bride.
Each attendant wore a beautifully crafted elongated corn-flower dress individually chosen to better suit each attendant’s personality. They carried bouquets of calla lilies.
Jeremy Abraham, friend of groom; served as best man. Groomsmen were Drexel Verrette, Leron Corell, Demetrius Vaughn and Latwan Winston, all friends of groom; and Kenneth Tolbert, Jr., friend of groom and also cousin of bride.
Chosen as flower girl was Amari Gordon, cousin of groom; and Trenton Williams, friend of family; was the ring bearer.
On her daughter’s special day, the mother of the bride wore a fashionable formal champagne dress with an ivory jacket. Pearl earrings and necklace completed her ensemble.
The mother of the groom was dressed in a sheer, off the shoulder, titanium colored bodice with a dropped volumeous skirt. A sash was worn to compliment her attire.
The bride’s cake was a four tiered confection iced in vanilla. Each tier was separated by columns and featured a filling of their own, which included pineapple, lemon, coconut and strawberry. A fountain illuminating the theme of blue was placed between the first and second tier, an embraced couple figurine was placed between the second and third tier. Between the third and fourth tier, was an assortment of blue flowers.
The groom’s cake was German chocolate topped with the initials of his college fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma.
The newly wedded couple was honored with a reception at the Rice Festival Building in Crowley immediately following the wedding ceremony.
The reception area was decorated with white wedding bells and blue and gray wedding banners. Guest were seated at tables that were covered with white linens. White and blue candles and saucers filled with chocolate kisses and candy hearts were placed on top of the tables.
Out of town guest registered from Chicago, Illinois; Alberquerque, New Mexico; Houston, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; St. Louis, Missouri; Lake Charles, Breaux Bridge, Lafayette and Ruston.
Following the wedding the couple will reside in Lafayette.
A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom’s parents, was held on March 14, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis of Assissi Church Hall. A meal consisting of crawfish fettuccine, fried catfish, rolls and iced tea was served.
