CORINE ROBERIE
October 18, 1928 - May 29, 2008
Funeral services were held for Corine Roberie, 79, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 31. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.
Ms. Roberie died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at her residence. A Labor of Love is an apt description of her active participation, constructive contribution and personal growth in the world of gardening and garden-clubbing. It, along with membership in other clubs having common goals and objectives, and her long-time association with the Louisiana Cotton Festival Commission, has been a powerful springboard for sharing herself in community service and effective citizenship.
Her vigorous spirit of volunteerism made her vividly aware that because of her interactions with the needs and wants of her peers, she experienced a metamorphosis, a fulfillment which she treasured. A quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that she believed in was “The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.” She firmly believed in grass roots development, continuing education, self-help, teamwork, diversification and friendship.
Above all else, Roberie cherished her family. She led her life as an example for her children and grandchildren to live by.
Roberie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI), majoring in social studies and French. She later earned a Master of Education degree in supervision and administration from Louisiana State University. Following retirement as an educator, she was licensed by the Louisiana Horticulture Commission as a landscape contractor and horticulturist.
Roberie was president of the Friends of the Arboretum and a member of the Magnolia Garden Club, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Southwest Council of Flower Show Judges, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Landscape Design Critics Council, Louisiana Project Wildflower, Louisiana Horticulture Commission, Louisiana Society for Horticulture Research, Friends of the Library and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association.
Roberie was the founder and project chairman of the Native Plant Heritage Garden in Ville Platte, and she worked to develop an outdoor conservation classroom in the Louisiana State Arboretum. She served on the state Cleanest City judging team and was actively involved in promoting the Cleanest City Contest in Ville Platte.
Survivors include one son, Richard H. Manuel of Ville Platte; one daughter, Martha LeJeune and her husband, Scott, of Lafayette; one sister, Mrs. James E. (Betty) Soileau of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Melissa Manuel, Garrett Manuel, Natalie LeJeune and Emily LeJeune; and one step-grandchild, Nathan LeJeune.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Paul Manuel; and one brother, Ellis Roberie.
Gift bearers were Melissa Manuel, Natalie LeJeune and Emily LeJeune.
Lectors were Kateri Manuel and Michaela Blanchard.
Pallbearers were Richard Manuel, Scott LeJeune, Nathan LeJeune, Garrett Manuel, Jess Soileau and John Roberie.
Father Josh Guillory officiated.

WINSTON THOMAS
October 20, 1945 - May 22, 2008
Funeral services were held for Winston Thomas, 62, of Beaumont, Texas, at the Owens-Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 31. Burial followed in the Ninth Baptist Church Cemetery.

ROSE GUILLAUMIN LAFLEUR
January 10, 1915 - May 28, 2008
Funeral services were held for Rose Guillaumin Lafleur, 93, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 12 noon, Saturday, May 31. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Ms. Lafleur died at 1:10 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include four sons, Wilbur Lafleur of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, Jimmy Lafleur and his wife, Connie Vidrine, and Danny Lafleur and his wife, Brenda Dupre, all of Ville Platte, and Carl Lafleur of Westwego; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Lafleur; her parents, Gaston and Artemise Sylvester Guillaumin; four brothers; and five sisters.

JOYLIN F. GUILLORY
August 7, 1925 - May 24, 2008
MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Joylin F. Guillory, 82, of Mamou, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 10 a.m., Monday, May 26. Burial followed in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Ms. Guillory died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Savoy Care Center in Mamou after an extended illness. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters Association for many years. She was also a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Gardening, cooking and baking were just a few of her loves in life. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and neighbor.
Survivors include one son, Charles “Bean” Guillory of Mamou; two daughters, Karen Reed and her husband, Robert, and Vivian Guillory and Ted Smith, all of Mamou; one brother, L.J. “Burk” Fontenot of Moss Bluff; two sisters, Edwina Chapman of Mamou and Jane Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Guillory; her parents, Ortere and Vivian Fontenot; one daughter, Judith Fontenot; two brothers, Forrest Fontenot Sr. and Francis Fontenot; and three grandchildren, Jacob and Roderick Fontenot and Phoebe Bertrand
