MATTHEW RAYMOND ARNOLD

CROWLEY - Funeral services were held for Matthew Raymond Arnold, 26, of Crowley, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 21. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Mausoleum.

Mr. Arnold died at 8:10 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in Picayune, Mississippi. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending much of his life hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was passionate about aviation, both as a pilot and in his studies in avionics. His personal charm warmed the hearts of most of those who met him. His unique wit left those close to him smiling and laughing. He will be remembered for his glowing smile, wonderful sense of humor, friendly disposition and zeal for life. He may be gone, but he is certainly not forgotten.

Survivors include his parents, Mark and Debbie Ortego Arnold of Crowley; two brothers, Nicholas Arnold and his wife, Robin, of New Orleans and Patrick Arnold of Baton Rouge; his maternal grandparents, Sidney and Patsy Ortego of Ville Platte; his paternal grandmother, Sue W. Arnold of Alexandria; his paternal great-grandmother, Rena P. Roberson of Alexandria; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Rev. Tracy Arnold.

Father Gary Schexnayder officiated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations made to Ms. Helen’s Soup Kitchen or Hospice of Acadiana.

URY TATE DUOS

July 20, 1927 - June 19, 2008

Funeral services were held for Ury Tate Duos, 80, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 21. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

Ms. Duos died at 7:20 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Ville Platte Medical Center. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Duos of Ville Platte and Celia Duos Halbert and her husband, Steve, of Cheneyville; two sisters, Una T. Fontenot and Lou Guillory, both of Ville Platte; five grandchildren, Angela F. Daspit, Scott Fontenot, Todd Halbert, Adam Halbert and Andrew Halbert; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Duos; and one great-grandson, Matthew Daspit.

BAYOU CHICOT - Funeral services were held for Dosher Givs, 86, of Eunice, at Second Baptist Church in Eunice at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 21. Burial followed in the St. James Baptist Church Cemetery in Bayou Chicot.

LULA MAE HOLLIER

March 13, 1921 - June 17, 2008

MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Lula Mae Hollier, 87, of Duralde, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., Friday, June 20. Burial followed in the Ortego Cemetery.

Ms. Hollier died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Chapman and Stafford Hollier, both of Dry Creek, and James Hollier of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Wilda David of Duralde and Magretta Johnson of Mamou; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Octave Hollier; one son, Lee Bert Hollier; her parents, Eugee and Eve Landreneau; and one great-grandson, Hunter David.

Father Bob Courville officiated.

LLOYD JOSEPH THRASHER

February 24, 1941 - June 20, 2008

TURKEY CREEK - Funeral services were held for Lloyd Joseph Thrasher, 67, of Pine Prairie, at First Pentacostal Church in Turkey Creek at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 21. Burial followed in the Turkey Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Thrasher died Friday, June 20, 2008, at his residence. He was an operator in the pipeline industry. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Thrasher and Kohn Johnson of Vidrine, Addie Belle and spouse, Mitch Fontenot, of St. Landry and Anita and spouse, Kirk Fontenot, of Faubourg; five brothers, Otis and spouse, Muriel Thrasher, of Turkey Creek, Jimmy Thrasher of Turkey Creek, John C. “Frog” Thrasher of Forest Hill, Donald Wayne and spouse, Kathy Thrasher, of Pine Prairie and Thomas and spouse, Brenda Thrasher, of Easton; one sister, Addie Belle Deshotel of Ville Platte; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and an extremely large number of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Holden Thrasher; one brother, Luckett Thrasher; and one sister, Jenieve Thrasher Blood.

Pallbearers were Robert Soileau Jr., Micheal Lance Soileau, Chris Soileau, Adam Soileau, Lance Thrasher, Derrick Thrasher, William (BeBe) Thrasher and John Thrasher.

Revs. Jeff Wainwright, Sam Russell and J. B. Yielding officiated.
