On Saturday, in non-district American Legion Baseball action, the Oilers hosted DeRidder.
Since it was a non-district encounter, the Oilers combined both of their teams and played a nine-inning contest. The Senior Oilers played the first five innings and the Junior Oilers took the field for the final four innings.
The Senior Oilers, behind the pitching of Jacque Fruge, led 5-2 after five innings. Fruge scattered four hits and gave up only one earned run. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.
The Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Ethan Hatler singled and scored on a triple by Ethan Moser.
After DeRidder scored two runs in the third, the Oilers responded with four in the fourth. Brett Baldwin doubled, and Jacob Fontenot and Tyler Fontenot had singles in that inning.
DeRidder would cut the lead to 5-3 with a run in the sixth off reliever Casey Charlie. Charlie allowed three hits but fanned three to escape further damage.
DeRidder would explode for 12 runs in the seventh inning against Eunice relievers Jacob Fontenot and Chris McCoy.
DeRidder would add a single run in the eighth and five runs in the ninth off three other Eunice relievers on their way to a 21-12 victory.
Eunice scored five runs in their seventh and two in the eighth.
Alex Comeaux led the offense in the later innings with two doubles and three RBI. Zac Person added two singles and one RBI, while Trent Vidrine contributed a two-run single.
