Dr. Daniel Wiltz gets promotion in Guard
St. Martinville – Dr. Daniel J. Wiltz was recently notified by Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau of his promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the United States Army National Guard.
His promotion from major was effective Jan. 25.
Lt. Col. Wiltz saw combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom with the deployment of the 256th Brigade of the Louisiana National Guard. Wiltz served in Bagdad as a field surgeon attached to the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas.
Dr. Wiltz joined the local National Guard unit based in St. Martinville in 1998 after graduating from Michigan State University and completing his residency requirements. He has been involved in state hurricane relief efforts and numerous medical mission trips to various countries.
Dr. Wiltz also serves as coroner of St. Martin Parish, and medical director of St. Martin Nursing Home, St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and St. Theresa’s Hospice.
In a letter to Dr. Wiltz, Gen. Landreneau extended his own personal congratulations and commented that “This promotion signifies the trust and confidence that I and the Louisiana National Guard have in you.”
