Eagle scout takes on painting project for the city

Whenever driving around A.A Comeaux Park, take notice of the fresh paint job of the lines all the way around the circle road.

That paint job is not being done by a person operating a special machine. It is being painted, by hand, by a local 15 year old boy.

Hunter LeBleu, a sophomore at Vermilion Catholic, is working on his Eagle Scout badge as a Boy Scout.

“Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Boy Scouts,” explained LeBleu. “It is right above Life. It is the best rank you can get.”

LeBleu is currently walking around the park to repaint the yellow line all the way around the park. He is also repainting over the white speed limit signs, as well as every other sign painted on the road. This project will help him earn his Eagle Scout.

LeBleu has been a member of the Boy Scouts since he was seven years old. It has taken him eight years to earn the highest rank in the Boy Scouts.

“It’s fun,” admitted LeBleu when asked what he liked about Boy Scouts. “I find it pretty cool. We get to go camping and do other kinds of activities.”

In order to achieve other rankings in Boy Scouts, LeBleu has had to complete other activities along the way.

“You have to go through all the rankings and pass all the border reviews,” said LeBleu on what it takes to reach the Eagle Scout level. “Then you have to do a project and put in 90 hours of service.”

Part of that 90 hours of service will be repainting the roads. LeBleu didn’t have to pick this as his project, but felt that it was something that needed to be done.

“I have played baseball here when I was little,” said LeBleu. “The paintings on the roads have always been bad. I thought doing this would be a good idea.”

LeBleu is still working on the roadways that run around the baseball fields at Comeaux Park. He expects it to take a few weeks and hopes to have the project complete before the Babe Ruth World Series comes to Abbeville in the month of August.
