Elite captures Mamou Invitational

The Eunice Elite went through last weekend undefeated and captured the Mamou Invitational championship.

Elite competed against six other teams in the 14U age group and began with a 4-2 win over the Pine Prairie Executers on Friday night.

On Saturday, Elite also defeated the Kinder All-Stars and Acadiana-based Mayhem.

On Sunday, the Elite won a rematch against the Executers.

By the end of bracket play the only teams left to battle were the undefeated Elite and the one-loss Executers.

The two teams faced each other again for the championship.

After a scoreless first inning, Elite’s Annie Barousse hit a single to left field.

Barousse advanced into scoring position on a hit by teammate Kirsten West.

Barousse then stole home as Elite grabbed a 1-0 lead.

After scoreless third and fourth innings, Brooke Lauren Fontenot advanced to first on a passed ball third strike and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jada Miller.

Executers scored their only run in the last inning to close the final margin to 2-1.
