On Friday, Louisiana State Police Troop I released a statement in regards to a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of 22-year-old Brett Fontenot of Ville Platte.
According to the release, the crash occurred early Friday morning around 2:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 167 “near Alligator Lane in Evangeline parish.”
The release went on to say that Fontenot, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, for unknown reasons “ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected to the left, entered a ditch and overturned.”
Fontenot “was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.”
According to the release, “Fontenot sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.”
State police say “it is unknown if impairment was a contributing factor, but standard toxicology results were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.”
This crash remains under investigation.
In its release, state police also reminded motorists “that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash,” and they ask that “you take one second to buckle up.”
A go fund me account has been set up to held pay for funeral expenses for Fontenot. Anyone interested in doing so by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/brett-fontenot.
