Former AHS student found guilty

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A jury on Sunday convicted former Tulane football player Ray Boudreaux Jr. on three counts of attempted manslaughter for a September 2007 brawl outside at Bourbon Street nightclub.

He also was found guilty of one count of aggravated battery, but jurors acquitted the 23-year-old Boudreaux on one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Sentencing is set for July 22, and he could face up to 60 years in prison.

Boudreaux and another witness testified Saturday that he was protecting himself. The former running back said he was attacked in front of the Utopia night club.

The Times-Picayune reported that Boudreaux, a former honors student from Abbeville, broke into tears as Judge Arthur Hunter read the verdicts Sunday.

The newspaper reported that about two dozen of Boudreaux’s relatives and supporters left the courthouse in silence.

The victims also left quietly. They are Larry Brooks, who has seven stab wounds; Keith “Twin” Townsend, who sustained brain damage in the attack; Carlton “Big Baby” Williams; and Damon Wise, a bouncer at Utopia in 2007.

Boudreaux was free on bond pending trial, and will remain out of jail until he is sentenced.

Tulane’s 2007 media guide said Boudreaux was a 5-foot-10-inch running back who in 2006 started two of the eight games he played and rushed for 175 yards.

After his arrest on Sept. 21, 2007, Tulane confirmed that Boudreaux, a senior, had been suspended from school and the team.
