Getting acquainted

The last seven and a half months I must say have been much of an adventure for me. Since starting my job at the Post Signal, I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of people and work on interesting topics.

A year ago, if you would have asked me if I thought I would or could ever be a newspaper reporter, I would have told you there was no way.

Thanks to a long lost friend that I recently got back in touch with through Myspace, I was informed of an opening for a receptionist position at the paper. So of course I brought in my resumé. I have to say, I was a little nervous, because it had been several years since I had worked with the public.

Needless to say, I didn’t get the receptionist job, and as you already know, I was hired to work in the editorial department.

I really enjoyed my job as a staff writer. I enjoyed going on photo assignments and I loved being able to meet different people all of the time. Most of all I love to interview people. Those who knew me before, know that must seem so unlike me. I was never one to draw much attention to myself, sort of on the more reserved side I guess you could say. But this job has brought out qualities that I didn’t even know I had.

In February, I took over the Lifestyles section of the paper. I simply love it! I love working with all of the social groups and of course my favorite part of the job are the weddings and engagements. That is such a happy time for these couples. I enjoy seeing the expression on their face when they bring in their wedding or engagement announcement. It is so enlightening. I also love doing the write-ups for baby showers. It is so sweet to see that glow in a young mother’s face.

Don’t get me wrong, it is a lot of work, which calls for much dedication. There are many days when I just want to pull my hair out, but in the end it all turns out fine.

In the past few months, I have learned a lot about myself. Most importantly, that I can do pretty much anything that I put my mind to. Now I’m not saying I don’t have days when I have my doubts, but I have great people backing me in all of this. These people I speak of are all of my fellow employees. I can count on any of them to help me when I run into a problem.

I owe a world of thanks to many in the office, but most of all I owe Kathy Duncan much gratitude. At times, I know she probably wanted to strangle me, but she never gave up on me. She has taught me so much about the do’s and don’ts of the newspaper business.

My family has learned to adjust to life without having me there 24/7 and doing everything for them, let me not get into the beginning of this adjusting period, but I am so proud of them, they have grown considerably.

I live in Gueydan, so my commute is a little longer than most of my coworkers. Every morning as I drive to work, I think about the day that awaits me. I guess you can say, this is my quiet time to collect my thoughts. I have to put my home life aside and concentrate on work. At times this can be really hard to do, since I have a 18 year old daughter, whom is graduating this year, and a 13, almost 14 year old son in the eighth grade. Need I say more!

I am looking forward to my future here at the paper. Working with the great people in our office, meeting new people and learning more about the social groups that help make the community what it is. This, as a whole, is what makes my job so great.

Couple to wed at St. Michael Catholic Church

Pappy and Jennifer Pousson of Egan and Bryan and Angelique Credeur of Crowley are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Rae to Aaron Jude Hebert of Thibodeaux, son of Bobby Lee and Jane Hebert of Pine Island.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dorothy Wattenbarger of Iota, Donald Atterberry of Memphis, Missouri, and Phyllis Credeur of Crowley.

Ashley is a 2003 graduate of Iota High School, and is also a graduate of McNeese State University with a BS in accounting and finance.

Aaron is a 1999 graduate of Hathaway High School, and is also a graduate of McNeese State University with a BS in engineering. He is currently employed as a field engineer for Schlumberger.

The couple plans to be married on the May 23, at St. Michael Catholic Church

Fr. Gary Schexnayder will officiate the ceremony.

Following the wedding, the couple will reside in Thibodaux.
