As the clock winds down on the 2015-16 basketball season, a number of parish teams are still in the hunt for the playoffs and a district title.
Friday night was a telling night for a trio of parish teams. Here is a rundown of those games played.
Ville Platte (G)
vs. Port Barre
Ville Platte took one step closer to a showdown with Eunice High for the district title with a commanding 54-21 win over Port Barre.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 8-1 in District 5-3A and are tied with the Lady Bobcats for first place.
If both teams win this next game, a playoff game will be needed to determine the district champion.
Ville Platte will host Northwest this coming Monday, while Eunice will face off against a winless Chuch Point squad.
Against Port Barre, the Lady Bulldogs did not take any chances, jumping out to a 21-8 halftime lead and holding Port Barre to zero points in the first quarter.
A 23 point performance in the fourth quarter sealed the win for Ville Platte.
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Kabreonna Stevens who knocked down 17 points. Makayla Ardoin added 14 points in the win.
Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Church Point
In a ever so important District 5-3A contest, Pine Prairie allowed 24 points in the fourth quarter as the Church Point Bears slipped past the Panthers 56-54.
Pine Prairie now falls to 12-7 on the year and 3-4 in district play. The loss to Pine Prairie takes them out of the mix for the district title and will most definitely drop them in the power ranking.
The Panthers came out like a team on a mission, jumping out to a 24-19 lead in the first half and sustained that lead with a 16-13 third quarter advantage.
However, Chuch Point went off in the final quarter, outscoring Pine Prairie 24-14 to squeeze past the Panthers.
Sylus Carson netted 18 points for Pine Prairie, while Douglas Fontenot added 12 points in the loss.
Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Church Point
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers continue to improve every week, as evidenced by their 43-29 win over Church Point Friday night.
With the win, Pine Prairie is now 8-15 on the year and 3-6 in district play. The Lady Panthers have more than doubled their win total from last season.
Pine Prairie will close out the season at home against Port Barre on Tuesday.
It was slow going for the Lady Panthers, as they fell to the Lady Bears 18-12 at the half.
Pine Prairie made up for the sluggish start, by scoring 21 points in the third quarter and holding Church Point to 13 points the rest of the way.
Tori Bordelon scored 17 points to lead the Lady Panthers, while Sarah Vidrine chipped in 16 points.
Mamou (G) vs. Vinton
The Mamou Lady Demons have set themselves up for a district title game against Lake Arthur with a 53-28 win over the Vinton Lady Lions.
Mamou remains a perfect 9-0 in District 4-2A and will face the 8-1 Lady Tigers on Thursday. A win would guarantee the district crown to the Lady Demons.
Mamou started pedestrian against Vinton, only leading 22-21 at the half. But, a 30-7 explosive advantage in the second half gave the Lady Demons the ever important win.
Three players scored in double figures for Mamou, led by Arkieyanah Thomas’s 14 points. Kiajah Wilson and Darelzeray Bellard added 13 points for Mamou.
