BASILE -- In a much needed win, the Basile Bearcats took care of a scrappy South Cameron ball club and ran away with a 27-0 win over the Tarpons.
With the victory, Basile is now 1-2 on the young season. South Cameron falls to 1-2 with the loss. The Bearcats will travel to Logansport this coming Friday to take on the Tigers in a non-district match-up.
Basile and South Cameron had trouble offensively to start the game, as neither squad could put points up in the first quarter of action. However, the Bearcats found their groove in the second quarter, scoring twice.
The first touchdown of the night for Basile came on a Jarred Belle 56-yard run. Jacob Guillory added the extra point and the Bearcats held a 7-0 lead.
Basile added to their total before the halftime horn sounded when Andre Reed scampered 57 yards for the touchdown. The Guillory point after was not good, but the Bearcats now led 13-0 heading into the locker room.
Basile carried their first half momentum with them as they took the field for the third quarter. Once again, Belle got the call and took the handoff 34 yards for the touchdown. Guillory tacked on the extra point and the Bearcat lead was now 20-0.
The final score for Basile came in the final quarter of the game. Rashawn Murphy got in on the action carrying the pigskin 33 yards for the score. Guillory was true once again on the point after and the Bearcats were up 27-0.
Belle led all rushers on the night with 107 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. Reed added 94 more yards on eight rushing attempts.
“This was a big win for us,” said Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand. “It will give us some much needed confidence going into the next few games.”
