BASILE -- Taking one game at a time has been the theme for the Basile Bearcats all season long.
And with that thought process always in the forefront, the Bearcats have sprinted out to a winning season in 2015.
That trend continued again this Friday night, as Basile throttled False River 57-0 in a district 5-1A matchup.
With the win, Basile moves to an impressive 7-1 record overall and 3-0 in district play.
The Bearcats wasted no time in putting the game away. Basile scored three touchdowns in the first quarter.
Jared Belle galloped 23 yards for the first score, Tray David added a two-yard run and David connected with tight end Ty Walker on a 53-yard pass play to put Basile up 20-0 at the end of one quarter of play.
The Bearcats were not done with the offensive barrage. Basile went on to tack on 28 more points in the second quarter to take a 48-0 lead into half time.
Scoring for Basile in the second quarter came from both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Gabe Fontenot found pay dirt on runs of 11 and 26 yards from the offensive side of the ball, while David scooted in from 30 yards out.
In the meantime, Stormy Comeaux picked off an errant Gator pass and traveled 76 yards for the interception return and a defensive score.
As the third quarter opened, the Bearcat special teams decided to get in on the action.
Jarred Belle took the opening kickoff of the second half 80 yards for the score.
Another defensive touchdown, in the form of a safety, closed out the Basile onslaught.
On the night, Gabe Fontenot led all Basile rushers, carrying the ball 13 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
Basile will host Catholic of Pointe Coupee Friday in what could be the title game.
