After another enormous season, the 9-1 Basile Bearcats were rewarded with a number two ranking and a first round bye in the LHSAA Class 1A football playoffs.
Basile will now await the winner of the Montgomery/Homer bi-district game to be played on Friday in Montgomery.
With the number two ranking, Basile will host every playoff game they are in until the championship game.
“Having the number two seed just rewards the hard work we have put in this whole season and off-season,” said Basile head coach Kevin Bertand. “I told the players it is going to be nice not to have to crank the bus in the playoffs, if we can continue to advance. As a program, we will be trying to get over that playoff hump and make it past the quarterfinals.”
Basile wrapped up the regular season clinching the District 5-1A championship with a 20-14 win. The Bearcats have outscored their opponents 243-84 and hold teams to 8.4 points per game.
According to Bertrand it does not matter who the Bearcats play in the first round. However, they are not just sitting around waiting for the outcome of the Montgomery/Homer game.
“We are just going to wait and see who we play next week in regionals,” stated Bertand. “We are definitely getting information on both teams. However, this week is chance for us to rest and heal up and work on some things necessary to get ready for that second season.”
