Basile, Sacred Heart earn playoff berths

A pair of teams from Evangeline Parish earned berths in the LHSAA playoffs on Sunday.
Basile earned the No. 18 seed in the Class 1A bracket and will travel to play No. 15 Lincoln Preparatory School. The winner of that game will face No. 2 Logansport, who earned a first-round bye in the bracket.
Basile has reached the Class 1A quarterfinals the past four seasons.
Sacred Heart meanwhile got into the postseason by earning the No. 16 seed in the Division III playoff bracket. The Trojans will be traveling to New Orleans to take on No. 1 seed Riverside Academy on Friday.
Ville Platte High meanwhile entered the final week of the regular season in the Top 30 of the Class 3A power rankings. The team’s blowout loss to Church Point on Friday, and several other teams winning their finales, dropped VPHS out of the Top 32 and out of the playoffs.
