Another great start by Basile in 2015 has the Bearcats at 4-0 and looking for more. Basile will step up in class to take on 3A Port Barre this Friday in Port Barre. The Red Devils come into the game with a 3-1 record. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
This past Friday the Bearcats took down a very good Logansport team. Basile used a solid run game and a bend but don’t break defense to down the Tigers 26-18.
The Bearcats rushed for 260 yards on 44 carries, most of those yards were attributed to powerhouse running back Gabe Fontenot. Fontenot carried the ball 30 times for 233 yards and three touchdowns.
The vaunted Basile defense gave up a huge chunk of yardage to Logansport; 386 yards to be exact. However, win push came to shove the Bearcat defenders came up huge.
“Against Logansport, we made sure that they earned their way down the field,” said Bertrand. “They had an explosive offense, but I thought that our defense did a great job of not allowing them to put big plays together.”
Bertrand is well aware Port Barre and their athleticism, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
“The best comparison I can make of Port Barre is that they look a lot like us,” stated Bertrand. “Their size concerns me. They have a big bruising back. We are going to have to limit their big plays because of the athletes they have.”
“Our defense will have to fly to the ball and we cannot assume that a tackle is made because their backs do a great job of making people miss.”
Port Barre comes into the game having beaten St.Ed’s this past Friday 39-18.
