Bayou Chicot takes second at Jr. High State

Bayou Chicot’s Lady Demons Junior High softball team placed second in the State Jr. High Softball Tournament. They won their first two games of the bracket before falling to Rayne Catholic in the state finals. The event took place in Monroe.
BCJH defeated Caldwell 2-1 in their one and only pool play game and their second game was cancelled due to rain.
In bracket competition, BCJH took on a very tough Calhoun team and left with a 2-1 victory. Lanie Eckhardt led off with a double in the second inning and Natalie Carraway reached base on a bunt single. The two runs came home when Bailey Fontenot laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. Those two runs would be enough for the local girls to take the win. Karli Ortego took the win in the circle, giving up a hit and fanning three batters.
BCJH beat LaSalle 3-2. Tori Johnson doubled and Jaci McFarland laid down a sacrifice bunt to push in a run.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Johnson and McFarland each singled, putting the tying run and winning run on the pads. Babie Briscoe came to the plate and slammed a “walk-off” double to end the game.
Ortego got the win in the circle. She fanned three batters and scattered two hits.
In the final, Rayne Catholic overpowered BCJH and won 11-1. McFarland scored the only run of the game on another double from Briscoe.
BCJH finished their season with a 25-5 record overall.
