BASILE -- The Basile Bearcats improved to 4-0 on the season with a huge 26-18 win over the Logansport Tigers Friday night.
Basile came into the game against Logansport knowing that the Tigers were a team that liked to move the ball through the air.
Although the Tigers did manage to collect 185 yards via the passing game, it was the Bearcat running game that controlled the game most of the night.
The Bearcats produced 260 yards on the ground and kept possession of the ball and most importantly away from the Logansport offense.
Senior running back Gabe Fontenot had another amazing night for Basile, as he rushed for 223 yards on 30 carries.
Basile struck first in the contest when quarterback Tray David plunged in from one yard out. The extra point was no good, but the Bearcats had an early 6-0 lead.
Basile added another touchdown in the second quarter. This time it was Fontenot who did the damage, rumbling in from 35 yards out. Fontenot added the two-point conversion on a nifty run and the Bearcats now led 14-0.
Logansport did not cave in. The Tigers marched down the field and got on the scoreboard when Debell Crawford crossed the goal line on a five yard touchdown run.
The two-point conversion was no good and the half ended with Basile up 14-6 over Logansport.
The third quarter was a back and forth affair as both clubs tried to get the momentum going.
Basile finally broke through on a Fontenot 12-yard scamper. Once again the kick failed, but the Bearcats were now up 20-6 going into the final quarter.
Logansport did not wither away easily. The Tigers cut the lead in the fourth quarter when Fredrick Williams connected with John Stephens on a 30-yard touchdown pass.
The two-point pass failed, however, the Tigers only trailed 20-12.
Basile added an insurance touchdown later in the quarter with touchdown pass from David to Fontenot from 14 yards out. The two-point pass failed, but the Bearcats had now opened to lead back up to 26-12.
The Tigers scored late in the game on a 20-yard pass from Williams to Madrid Johnson. Logansport could not connect on the two-point conversion, and the game ended at 26-18.
