Bearcats run past Tarpons 29-6; remain undefeated

CREOLE -- The Basile Bearcats used a potent running game to subdue the South Cameron Tarpons 29-7 Thursday night.
With the win, Basile improves to 3-0 on the season and will face Logansport next Friday in Basile. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Against the Tarpons, the Bearcats put together a run game that produced 249 yards of offense on the ground on 38 rushing attempts.
Senior running back Gabe Fontenot did most of the heavy lifting as he collected 173 yards on 21 carries and scored all four of the Basile touchdowns along with a two-point conversion.
Basile scored in all four quarters against South Cameron. In the opening period, Fontenot forged ahead from five yards out to put up the first points of the game.
Fontenot then took the handoff for the two-point conversion to give the Bearcats the 8-0 lead.
Fontenot added to the Basile total in the second quarter. The Bearcat workhorse scored from 23 yards out on a nifty run. Tray David added the extra point and Basile now led 15-0.
The third period saw Fontenot score once again. This time through the air as he hauled in a 25 yard touchdown pass from David. The kick was good from David and Basile now had a 22-0 lead.
The final Bearcat score came in the final period as Fontenot scampered into the end zone from 22 yards out.
David connected on the extra point giving the Bearcats a 29-0 lead.
South Cameron’s lone score came in the fourth quarter as Logan Shows took the handoff and pushed ahead from eight yards out. The extra point attempt was true and made the score 29-7 in favor of Basile.
David ended the night with three completions on 13 attempts for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Basile rushed for 249 yards on 38 carries. Despite the score, the Bearcats did have problems holding on to the football. Basile fumble six times, losing only one to the Tarpons.
The Tarpons were held to 148 yards of total offense, most of that coming late in the game. South Cameron could only manage 97 yards rushing on 30 attempts.
