The dominance continues.
When it comes to parish titles, the Ville Platte High hard court teams have a monopoly on the trophy.
This season is no different, as both the Bulldogs and the Lady Bulldogs have once again brought the Evangeline Parish Tournament titles back to “Flat Town”.
The Lady Bulldogs retained the title on Saturday with a dominating 59-40 win over the Mamou Lady Demons. The Bulldogs collected their championship with a hard fought 79-63 win over the Mamou Demons.
Here is a rundown of both championship games.

Mamou (G) vs. Ville Platte
In the first championship game, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs flew out of the gates on a mission. Junior Lady Bulldog center Tyreonna Doucet made her presence felt early and often in the opening period, both offensively and defensively.
Doucet scored nine points and altered shots in the paint as the Lady Bulldogs took a 19-9 lead at the end of the period.
The poor shooting of Mamou in the first quarter looked to get back on track as the second quarter began. The Lady Demons hit three baskets in a row, including a three-pointer from Kiajah Wilson, to cut the Ville Platte lead down to 22-16 at the 4:10 mark.
However, Ville Platte would not allow the Lady Demons to get any closer. The Lady Bulldogs blasted ahead on a 12-1 run over the last four minutes to open up a 17 point advantage, 34-17, as the first half horn sounded.
Doucet contributed six points in the quarter to aid the Lady Bulldogs.
The third quarter saw the Lady Demon continue to fight their way back into the game. But, Ville Platte would not relent, as Mamou could only cut the lead to 47-34 as the quarter came to a close.
Defense was the name of the game for the Lady Bulldogs the entire game, but especially in the final quarter. Ville Platte’s pressure led to several fast break opportunities and gave the defending champs the chance to extend the lead to 20 points half way through the quarter. That lead basically stood for the remainder of the contest.
Doucet led all scorers with 24 points. Arkeiyanah Thomas was high scorer for Mamou with 17 points.

Mamou (B) vs. Ville Platte
In a tale of two halves in the boy’s championship game, both Mamou and Ville Platte were unyielding in the opening quarter of the contest. Ville Platte jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead with only three minutes gone.
However, Mamou began to battle back and cut the Bulldog lead to one, 19-18, on a Russell Wilson put back with seven seconds left on the clock.
The game see-sawed back and forth in the second quarter. The Demons took a 25-21 lead at the 5:30 mark, after going on an 8-2 run to open the period. Ville Platte fought back and overtook Mamou 31-28 two minutes later.
With the game tied at 38-38, the Demons went on a 4-1 run over the last 1:38 to hold a 42-39 advantage as the first half came to a close.
As the third quarter began, neither team was ready to concede the championship. The teams exchanged buckets for most of the quarter, as Ville Platte held a 56-52 lead with 3:22 left to go in the period.
The Bulldogs somehow found an extra gear and blew the game open, going on a 10-2 run over the final minutes of the quarter, to lead 66-54 as the quarter ended
Once Ville Platte had control of the game, they did not let Mamou get a chance to rally back. In fact, the Bulldogs extended their lead in the final quarter, outscoring the Demons 13-9 to take the win and the title.
Ville Platte had several players in double digits. Leading all Bulldog scorers was Tyron Jones who knocked in 19 points. Martin Jason and Brandon Thomas each contributed 18 points, while Shanicole Holland added 16 points.
Mamou was led by Edwards who had a game high 34 points in the loss.
