Bulldogs, Panthers earn spots on 5-3A squad
The All-District 5-3A basketball team was selected toward the end of the season. With the bulk of the district teams making the post-season, it was an extremely competitive league to say the least.
Locally, both Ville Platte and Pine Prairie battled hard in their first season in the league. It was a new class and a new league. Both teams had a lot to do in order to make it to the post-season. Ville Platte went on to earn a post-season birth, and fell to the Rams of Richwood in the opening round. The Panthers came up short of the post-season, but did manage a 20-10 record.
Two players from Evangeline Parish made first team honors. Pine Prairie’s Allen Myles and Ville Platte’s Ernest Ardoin. Each led their respective teams in nearly every offensive category. Ardoin, a junior, has been helping the Bulldogs succeed year in and year out.
Josh Freeman represents the Panthers on the second team, while Alex Gooden and Mitchell Seraille hoist the Bulldogs’ colors.
On the All-Defensive team, Kendall Ardoin and Jaqualen Doucet were selected from Ville Platte High School.
From Pine Prairie, Colton Chaddrick and Byron Jackson got the nod for the All-Defensive team. The duo helped the Panthers stay competitive all season and nearly make the playoffs.
Three VPHS players earned an Honorable Mention. Dayton Jackson, Brandon Dommick and Darrien Anderson were honored by the league coaches.
