Bulldogs pick up road win over Walker High
Playing on the road Monday against class 5A Walker High School allowed the Ville Platte Bulldogs to raise their record to 8-7, as they defeated the Wildcats 70-55. The Bulldogs used a 13 point advantage in the first quarter to claim victory over Walker. Ville Platte will participate in the Northwest Holiday Tournament in Prairie Rhonde beginning Friday.
The first quarter belonged to the Bulldogs. An impressive defensive effort held the Wildcats to only seven points in the period. On offense Ville Platte popped the nets for 20 points to take the lead as the quarter closed. Things settled down for both squads in the second quarter. Each team was able to net 11 points in the period. As the buzzer sounded to end the half, the Bulldogs owned a 31-18 lead.
Ville Platte came out in the third quarter looking to put the game away. The Bulldogs poured in 27 points in the period, including a trio of three-point buckets. Walker managed to net 14 points in the quarter, but still trailed 58-32 as the third stanza ended.
The Wildcats came out in the fourth quarter on fire, trying to overcome the 26 point deficit. Walker put up 23 points in the quarter, but it was not enough, as Ville Platte scored 12 points to hold off the Wildcat charge and seal the victory.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Alex Gooden, who netted 15 points. JaQualen Doucet chipped in 11 points for Ville Platte in the win.
