The heavily-favored Comets of St. Charles Catholic made short work of the Bulldogs of Ville Platte High School Friday night.
The 49-0 victory moved the Comets to 3-2 on the year, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-2.
St. Charles Catholic scored in each of the first three quarters on the legs of their speedy quarterback, Austin Weber. The highly recruited speedster plays both ways for the Comets and he is worthy double duty. He scored twice on offense and once on defense.
Weber threw for 120 yards and ran for 42 yards. On defense, he recovered a fumble in the end zone for a St. Charles Catholic score.
Ville Platte High School, who averages nearly 400 yards a game, was held to half that mark. It was the second time the Ville Platte Bulldogs were shut out this season.
“It was a tough environment to play in,” said Ville Platte High Head Coach Tracy Jagneaux. “They (St. Charles Catholic) have like 80 kids on their roster. Now our kids see what it takes to win 3A. St. Charles was good and they showed. We got a good vision of what its like to be in 3A and what district will be like. This game will get us ready.”
The Ville Platte Bulldogs will head to Port Barre next week to meet their old rivals. The Red Devils are 4-1 on the year. They are coming off of a 28-21 win over the Delcambre Panthers. Their only loss came at the hands of Opelousas Catholic in week one.
“We know Port Barre and we have defeated them before, but it’ll tough,” Jagneaux replied. “They (Port Barre Red Devils) always play us tough no matter what the situation.”
Ville Platte High School gets set to meet the Port Barre Red Devils this coming Friday.
With minor injuries to a few key players it may cause some problems for the Bulldogs. Most of the injuries are listed as day-to-day, according to Jagneaux.
