Bulldogs rebound with solid win over Wildcats
The Ville Platte High Bulldogs went into the game against the Livonia Wildcats hoping to rebound from a tough loss to Pine Prairie on Tuesday. A win by Ville Platte would keep them in the race for the district championship.
The Bulldogs rode a decisive third quarter to a 73-57 victory. With the win, Ville Platte improves to 12-10 on the season and 2-1 in district play.
Needing to get off to a quick start, the Bulldogs netted 17 points in the first quarter. Ville Platte held the Wildcats to 10 points and held a seven point lead at the end of the period.
The Bulldogs were able to stretch that lead in the second quarter. A 17-14 advantage in the stanza gave Ville Platte the 34-24 lead heading into the second half.
The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game for the Bulldogs. Ville Platte controlled the period from the beginning and finished with a 57-38 lead.
Livonia did try to get back into the ball game by outscoring the Bulldogs 19-16 in the fourth quarter. However, Ville Platte held off the Wildcat’s attempted comeback to close out the win.
On the night, three Bulldog players scored in double digits. Kielian Semien led all scorers for Ville Platte, knocking in 21 points. Alex Gooden and Ernest Ardoin each added 15 points in the victory.
The Bulldogs will travel to Church Point on Tuesday looking to keep pace in the district 5-3A race.
