When the Ville Platte Bulldogs travel to Opelousas this coming Friday to take on the Tigers, Bulldog head coach Jorie Randle knows a lot rides on the game.
“If we can take down Opelousas, it would bode well for us going into district,” said Randle. “District is next week. For us to be 3-2 going into the second part of the season would give our players a load of confidence. We have a very tough district and it is going to be a war every game.”
Ville Platte will come into the game with an even 2-2 record. Opelousas is 0-4. However, as Randle knows, records do not mean much when having to face a team desperate for a win.
“Opelousas has played a very tough schedule,” stated Randle. “They are hungry for a win. Those teams that you play that do not have a win, as a coach it makes you nervous. The question becomes are your players going to perform or are they going to show up with no emotion or adrenaline?”
“I cannot lie, I am nervous because they are hungry for that first win and we can’t let them linger in the game. We are going to have to put them away early.”
This past Friday, the Bulldogs took care of business early in the contest, scoring all of their points in the first half.
Ville Platte controlled the game throughout, especially on the ground.
“I felt we ran the ball well against North Central,” commented Randle. “We still need to tweak our passing game. We had other opportunities to score but just could not put the ball in the end zone. North Central competed well against us. It was good for us because our secondary got to get some looks against a spread team. Hopefully that will pay off down the line.”
Senior quarterback Terez Alfred led the way for Ville Platte against North Central scoring four touchdowns, one on the opening kickoff.
Bulldog running back Daylon Jones had 112 yards rushing.
