Demons try to correct mistakes against Tigers Friday

Mamou High School has had to play a number of inexperienced players this season.
That inexperience has shown itself the last two weeks of the regular season as evidenced by their 0-2 start.
Last week the Demons fell to East Beauregard 35-6. In that game, Mamou carried over some of the same mistakes made the week before against Ville Platte; mistakes that cost the Demon twice so far this season.
Mamou will host Oberlin High School this Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
“The mistakes that are being made happen when you have a young football team,” said Mamou head Coach Brian Brumfield. “Things like not correctly lining up right or missing assignments. The good news is that all of these things are correctable.”
The Demon offense did improve somewhat against East Beauregard this past Friday. After an anemic performance against Ville Platte, Mamou did move the ball somewhat against the Trojans.
“I thought we ran the ball well at times,” stated Brumfield. “But, we need to get our passing game going or teams will just stack the box on us. We have a first-year starter at quarterback and he is still learning how to get his timing and rhythm down. .”
Defensively, the Demons were outmatched size wise against East Beauregard. However, it was the missed assignments that have coach Brumfield worried the most.
“We stopped the inside run game,” stated Brumfield. “But we could not stop the outside game because we weren’t in the right places. We are going address that this week at practice.”
Hopefully, the Demons can fix that situation, because the Oberlin Tigers come to town running an identical style of offense to East Beauregard.
“Oberlin is very similar to East Beauregard, except not as big,” commented Brumfield. “We are going to make some personnel changes on offense and see if we can throw the ball better.”
