The Mamou High Demons are searching for their first win of the season as they travel to Oakdale to take on the Warriors this coming Friday night. The Demons are 0-4 on the season and are still in the process of finding out who they are both offensively and defensively.
“Since we have gone to the split-back veer offense, I think we have run the ball a lot better,” said Demon head coach Brian Brumfield. “Our backs, when healthy are carrying the ball with authority, especially Joab Perron. We just need to try and put drives together.”
The Demons did rush for 167 yards this past Friday against Pine Prairie. Perron was the workhorse for Mamou, pounding out 100 yards on 21 carries.
Mamou had a load of trouble on defense against the Panthers. Pine Prairie rushed for over 400 yards against the Demon defense.
“We just did not wrap up against Pine Prairie,” stated Brumfield. “When you play against talented backs like Pine Prairie has, you cannot miss tackles. We are going to have to clean that up this week.”
Oakdale brings a talented club into Friday’s game. Their 1-3 record is deceiving. The Warriors have lost to powerhouses Kinder, Welsh and Iowa.
“Oakdale is a good football team,” commented Brumfield. “They have a big, bruising back. Their receivers are really good and their defense flies to the football. We are going to have to grind it out to get a win against them.”
