Despite loss, Lady Demons still district co-champs
On Thursday, the Mamou Lady Demons were hoping to secure an outright district championship with a win over the Kinder Lady Yellow Jackets. Kinder came into the game with two district losses on their record, Mamou with only one loss in district. The Lady Demons could not manage much offense in the game and took the 6-1 loss.
Despite the setback, Mamou ends up with an 8-2 league record and tied with the Lady Jackets for the district championship.
Kinder took the early lead over Mamou, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Demons plated a single run in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1. Katiee Bertrand struck out to lead off the inning. Amber Manuel reached on an error by the first baseman. Madison Trahan singled, putting runners at first and second with one out. Logan Thomas was called out on the infield fly rule.
With two out, Maggie Soileau singled to score Manuel. Kourtnie Deshotel grounded out to the shortstop for the final out of the inning.
After being shut down in the third and fourth innings, the Lady Yellow Jackets exploded in the fifth inning. Several Mamou errors, multiple walks and two huge extra base hits propelled Kinder to five unanswered runs.
The Lady Demons could not recover and was blanked in the final three innings of the game.
Manuel suffered the loss on the mound, giving up six runs on five hits and allowed four walks. Trahan led all Mamou hitters, going two for three with a double. Soileau went one for three with a run batted in.
