Girls Basketball
Mamou vs. Oakdale
The Mamou Lady Demons, fresh off of a Turkey Tournament championship, took on the Oakdale Lady Warriors last Tuesday night. The Lady Demons continued the run of victories established in the Thanksgiving tournament, as they used a big third quarter to put away Oakdale by the score of 54-47.
Mamou and Oakdale came out on fire in the first quarter as both squads scored in double digits. The Lady Demons were only up by two, 18-16, at the end of the initial period. The second quarter saw the Lady Warriors outpace the Lady Demons 11-7 to take the 27-25 halftime lead. However, Mamou doubled Oakdale’s output in the third quarter, 20-10, to overtake the Lady Warriors 45-37 at the end of the period. Mamou was outscored 10-9 in the fourth stanza, but held on for the win.
In the game Dezzy Bellard netted 30 points to lead all Mamou players. Arkie Thomas chipped in nine points in the game.
Boys Basketball
Mamou vs. Oakdale
The Mamou High Demons hosted the Oakdale Warriors in a non-district contest last Tuesday night. The Demons scored in double digits in each quarter to roll to a 68-45 victory.
Mamou jumped out to an early 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter with Russell Edwards producing six of the 14 points. In the second period, the Demons continued to outpace the Warriors scoring 20 points and taking a 34-22 halftime lead.
Another 18 point outburst by Mamou in the third stanza gave the Demons the 56-38 lead at the end of the quarter. Mamou topped off the game by outscoring Oakdale 12-7 in the fourth quarter to finish the game and seal the win.
In the contest, Mamou had three players score in double figures. Leading the way was Trey Wilson who poured in 24 points. Edwards netted 18 points, while Lil Paul Williams added 10 points in the victory.
Ville Platte vs.
David Thibodaux
The Ville Platte Bulldogs travelled to Lafayette last Tuesday night to face the David Thibodaux Bulldogs. David Thibodaux is a magnet school located in Lafayette. The Ville Platte Bulldogs used a strong second quarter to outduel David Thibodaux 55-45 in a non-district contest.
Ville Platte took command of the game in the first quarter, outscoring David Thibodaux 18-14. The second quarter belonged to the Evangeline Parish version of the Bulldogs, as they used a stiff defense to outpace David Thibodaux 13-5 and lead 31-19 at intermission. Darren Poullard and Ernest Ardoin both chipped in four points in the second period.
The third quarter belonged to David Thibodaux, as they scored 16 points to cut the lead down to 41-37. However, Ville Platte went on to tack on 14 points in the final period, holding David Thibodaux to nine, and sealed the win.
Brandon Dominick led the way for Ville Platte with 12 points. Keilan Semien added 11 points in the winning effort.
