Evangeline Parish weekly baseball round up

The following are game summaries for baseball games played this past week by the parish baseball teams.
Sacred Heart
vs. Westminster
On Saturday, the Sacred Heart Trojans hosted one time district rival Westminster High School in a non-district game. The Trojans scored in every inning, except the fourth, in route to a run rule 10-0 victory over the Crusaders. With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 16-2 on the season.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the end of the first inning. Sacred Heart added another run when Evan Mire scored in the second. The Trojans doubled their advantage to 8-0, when they plated four runs in the third inning. After a scoreless fourth inning, Sacred Heart added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close out the game.
A combined pitching effort between Caleb Soileau and Josh LaHaye helped shut out the Crusaders. Soileau pitched four complete innings, only allowing three hits, while striking out three and walking one. LaHaye closed out the game, allowing one hit, struck out one and walked one.
Mire and Phillip Vidrine were both two for two at the plate to lead all Trojan hitters. Mire collected three runs batted in and also scored two runs. Vidrine added two runs batted in and a run scored. Nick LaHaye was two for three with two runs scored.
Mamou
vs. North Vermilion
The Mamou Demons traveled to Maurice to take on the North Vermillion Patriots on Saturday. A four run first inning propelled the Patriots to the 7-2 non-district win over the Demons. With the loss, Mamou drops to 2-13 on the season.
The Demons found themselves behind 5-0 after two innings of play. Mamou scored their only two runs of the game in the top of the third, when Austin Fontenot and Dylan Duplechin scored on a Jude Fontenot double. The Patriots, out of class 3A, scored in the bottom of the third and sixth innings to seal the win.
Corey Bordelon suffered the loss on the mound. Bordelon went four and one third innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking three. Chris Pitre closed out the game, allowing one run on one hit. Pitre also struck out one and walked one.
Austin Fontenot led all Demon hitters, going one for two, with a run scored. Fontenot was one for three, with two runs batted in. Duplechin batted one for four and scored a run.
Pine Prairie
vs. Port Barre
Pine Prairie entered their contest against the Port Barre Red Devils with a 2-1 district record. The Panthers needed a win to keep close to the league leading Red Devils who came into the game undefeated. Unfortunately for Pine Prairie, Port Barre was able to hold the Panthers to one run in a 6-1 loss Pine Prairie loss.
The Red Devils took the early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. The Panthers cut that lead in half when J.T. Joubert tripled and then scored on a Matthew Rougeau sacrifice fly. Port Barre added a run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth to close out the scoring and the win.
Joubert suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in five and two thirds innings. Joubert and Dylan Doucet were both two for three to lead all Panther hitters. Pine Prairie drops to 10-8 on the year and 2-2 in district play with the loss.
